About Me

I Am All Ears is a different kind of blog.  Instead of mostly being about me, it will mostly be about you.

You see, I need your help.  I want to make sure I’m living with consistency, and that my beliefs and positions are justified.

This is where you come in.  Atheists, housewives, Mormons, engineers, dervishes, I need your perspectives and arguments.  Please comment in my posts with your strongest apologetics for your beliefs.  I’ll weigh them all carefully, objectively and most of all, openly.  You can have an enormous impact on my life and thinking, so please carefully consider your words.

Thanks for your help, and I look forward to the discussion.

This is awesome for it is truly different. I love the idea of simply listening.

Interesting. Intimidating, though. 🙂 I’ll follow and post if I feel strongly about something… and up to the task of defending it.

Why not we start by you telling us what you believe or doesn’t believe?

I’m not saying this what you are doing, but I’d like to share something that I’ve been coming across:

People who claim to be “open” in the following way …

They “welcome” discussion with layman philosophers who do not have their points of view fully articulated yet — ready to pounce on any inconsistencies in language. Their aim is NOT to explore new points of view but to solidify their own … by more or less “picking” on people who are not professional philosophers.

This saddens me, as this type of person seems to disregard the poetic qualities inherent in informal speech and undermines a great deal of other human beings who actually do have something to say.

It might be interesting to see this type of person in conversation with Daniel Dennett, Peter Singer or even Steven Pinker or Sam Harris … one can’t help but wonder if their lifelong commitment to “open discussion” has prepared them for such a challenge.

I think this is an important comment. May I use it as a jumping-off point for a new post?

I do ask that you try not to get mired in my language, as I am NOT a professional philosopher. Professional Buffoon at best 🙂
